Paddle Into Fitness

Paddle Into Fitness began in 2010 with professional athlete, ocean lifeguard, aquatic emergency medical technician, yoga and fitness instructor Gillian Gibree. Gillian started competed in ocean events as a Roxy athlete, and placed first in the Quiksilver Waikiki Festival in the SUP Survivor Race & the Water woman Race, and also traveled to Peru as a member of Team USA for the ISA World Championships. She’s been a regular on the podium in the Battle of the Paddle California and Hawaii, and was a top finisher in numerous national lifeguard championships. At the same time, Gillian created Paddle Into Fitness, which offers Paddleboard lessons, SUP Yoga & SUP Fitness workshops in open water & in pools. Her lessons & certification programs have been approved under Yoga Alliance, the World Paddle Association, the American Council on Exercise (ACE), NASM, CanFitPro, and the AFAA. Gillian was on the cover of Yoga Journal and has been featured in Self, Shape, and Yahoo Sports.

The classes Gillian offers include:
Beginner Lessons, SUP Yoga, SUP Fitness, and Beach Fitness (HITT Classes)

SUP Fitness:
The SUP Fitness workshop will be 2 hours consisting of a Beginner SUP Lesson & the SUP Fitness class. The Beginner SUP Lesson will cover water safety, equipment, proper stance and form, paddle technique, and turns. After learning the basics of SUP, we will progress to more advanced stroke techniques & pivot turns and do some paddle intervals. Then we paddle over to a calm area to anchor down for Surfer’s Sculpt SUP Fitness, which is a fun HIIT workout on the board. We will finish up with Gentle Wave yoga to cool down. There will be time at the end of class for photos or additional poses. This comprehensive exercise experience blends cardio, strength, flexibility, and balance into a fun total body workout with paddle sprints and fitness maneuvers on the board. Let the surf and sand take your fitness to a whole new level!

SUP Yoga:
Come enjoy the ancient practice of Yoga combined with Stand Up Paddle Boarding! These classes take your favorite yoga routines and put them on the water. Yoga practice brings balance and restores all bodily systems by creating physical, mental and spiritual harmony. Both yoga and stand up paddle boarding are great for building better balance, coordination, endurance, and body strength!

Beginner Lesson:
This lesson will teach you the basics of SUP. It covers ocean safety, proper stance and form, and paddle techniques. You will receive a board, paddle, leash, and PFD. No matter what your experience or level of fitness, you will be paddling your very first session!

Beach + SUP Fitness:
Have fun in the sun combining different exercises in the sand and on the water! Some of the stations include beach running, paddle sprints, and different core exercises on and off the water.
